Market report

Market data on Fashion and Textile Designers in Germany

VDMD has researched the tasks set to fashion and textile designers in Germany and their economic situation both in free-lance and employed jobs. Related with this, their need for further professional training and their investment behaviour has been studied. The survey is available in German only.

This research is significant both for finding a job and starting a business, since it supplies a realistic assessment of the requirements and chances in the creative professional areas in the textile and fashion sector. At the same time, it informs about the trend to invest and the budgets of both free-lance and independent designers, a fact that may be of great significance for suppliers of CAD systems, software and hardware, sampling units such as inkjet printers, embroidery and knitting machines and trend information services. Moreover, private and state-run educational institutions can work out precise offers for the designer target group in the wake of this study - above all seeing that VDMD has a partner association - the association of German Industry Designers VDID - whose members face a similar need for further education.

VDMD itself accommodates 350 to 400 designers - usually free-lance or independent - of whom around 90% are women. VDID boasts a similar structure with, however, 90% of members being male.
