Historie
It is a common experience made by fashion and textile designers that the acknowledgement of their professional achievements and the respect of agreements concluded is by no way a matter of course.
This experience fuelled the foundation of the association of German Fashion Designers (DMD) in Munich in 1984. By way of internal exchange among fellows and the assembly of a service offer designed to support the individual designer in his/her professional activities, the DMD succeeded in establishing itself as THE professional lobby of fashion and textile designers.
In December 1996, the DMD decided to join the German Designer Association (DDV) as a specialist group in a move to ensure the contemporary and future-minded advancement of the association s goals in cooperation with other specialist design associations.
Since January 1, 1997 the association has been baptized VDMD – association of German Fashion and Textile Designers e.V. VDMD cooperates with the Association of German Industry Designers e.V. (VDID) within the common umbrella organization, the DDV – German Designer Association.
Since 2007, VDMD is an active member of the Initiative Deutscher Designverbände (iDD), which aims to improve the situation for all designers in Germany.
